A Blood Moon can occur during a full lunar eclipse. As the earth casts its shadow on the moon, the sun’s light is bent, filtered and scattered by earth’s atmosphere. The shorter light wavelengths, primarily red and orange in color, get refracted and directed towards the moon giving it the reddish orange or copper color we see on that night.
